That’s right, from the 1337 hax0rs that brought you Anonym.OS, kaos.theory/security.research presents S.A.M.A.E.L. (Secure, Anonymous, Megalomaniacal, Autonomous, Encrypting Linux), the natural evolution of our secure, automagicically anonymizing operating system, Anonym.OS into a kick-ass anonymizing server!

In unison, we’re proud to introduce N.A.R.C…

How do I install Anonym.OS to HD/USB?

Today, although it’s possible, Anonym.OS is not designed for easy installation. Remember, this was our first beta and the primary goal was pushing out a live operating environment that was [mostly] stable and effectively provided strong security, anonymity and encryption out of the box.

Seems we nailed that goal pretty well, so our next step is to address all of the optional but highy desirable features, like:

* Installation to HD/USB

* Automatic mounting of local HD partitions

* More “desktop” tools like office apps, multimedia, etc

These features are being included based on the number of requests we get, so make sure and let us know what you want to see most in future versions of Anonym.OS!

Strong Egress Ruleset for PF

Ruleset by elmore; initially built as a base template forAnonym.OS/BSD LiveCD. (Note: Anonym.OS uses a newer PF ruleset by elmore, not available separately. For the newer ruleset, please download Anonym.OS and extract /etc/pf.conf.

Anonym.OS LiveCD

Like sand through the hourglass, so are the vestiges of our privacy. From increased governmental surveilance to corporate content restrictions and data brokers, what you do, where you go, and who you talk to is of more interest to more people every day.

Anonym.OS is an OpenBSD 3.8 Live CD with strong tools for anonymizing and encrypting connections. Standard network applications are provided and configured to take advantage of the tor onion routing network.

Great Quotes from Happy Users

I’m happy to say, we’re getting a lot of great feedback about Anonym.OS, as well as a ton of feature requests, many of which are already on our roadmap, which we’ll be posting here soon. In the meantime, here are a few of my favorite quotes:

Steve of NeighborGeek News says:

This project by the kaos.theory security research group, if successful, will be one of the greatest innovations in computer security in a long time.

Nobody:

Anonym.OS — Been waiting for something like this! WOW!

Of course there have always been homegrown solutions to what Anonym.OS offers, however it is *very* nice to have an .ISO based, live non-linux solution (OpenBSD, best OS!).

Anonym.OS is now used exclusively here for all secure communication needs, as well as one of my most reccommended utils. :)
Keep up the great job!

Student:

Awesome program! I don’t use it for privacy, I use it for the security.

How to build a STABLE OpenBSD Install CD from source

Ever needed a personal STABLE OpenBSD install CD? Sure, we all have especially those tranny loving grannies.

It’s important to note that there are no official full CD install ISO’s of OpenBSD available for download, which is on purpose. Please respect Theo’s wishes and his copyright to the filesystem layout and be sure to order your official install CDs and support the project.

This howto assumes that you already have OpenBSD Installed with the needed development tools. It also assumes that all of the commands below are run as root. Not all commands need to be run as root, but in the interest of simplifying this howto I assume you either know when to use sudo or you’ve su’ed to root before any of the steps below.

Please contribute back to the community

I just ordered a couple T-shirts from the OpenBSD project and thought it would be a good time to ask others to contribute as well. Please take the time to give back to the community that gives so much to you. There are several ways to help open source projects, either with time or money. If you don’t have the money to donate take the time to help by submitting useful and complete bug reports or by submitting new ports for OpenBSD or by running a Tor server. Those are just a few ideas. Feel free to contact members of various OSS groups and ask them how you can help. We, of course, will be contributing back to the technologies and projects we use to build Anonym.OS in many capacities.

Here are a few links to help you get started:

Well, it’s been a busy three days. I’ve received dozens of emails following our first public beta release of Anonym.OS, and I hope everyone will be patient with me as I try to respond to each email. In the meantime, I can address a few of the more common questions:

1. Where can I download Anonym.OS?

There are currently two download sites — Sourceforge and LinuxTracker

2. Is there an MD5 digest for the ISO?

Don’t know how I missed posting this with the ISO, sorry. :-/ aa3907cbe3220f57e1c1a1bbaec062ef

3. What do I have to do to burn/boot the CD?

You do not have to extract the ISO. Just burn it right from Windows, Mac OS, Linux or BSD and boot right off the CD.

Everything else I haven’t addressed here, I will be addressing in individual email responses, and I will try to compile the more pertinent points into a FAQ that everyone can refer to in the future.

100 TB of Anonymity

For those still having problems downloading, please accept my sincerest apologies. We had absolutely no idea how popular Anonym.OS would become, nor how quickly.

In roughly 36 hours since it’s release, we’ve now seen over 190,000 downloads of Anonym.OS via Sourceforge alone, amounting to roughly 110 TB served! One hundred and ten terabytes. Holy crap.

Additionally, we’ve had over 2800 successful snatches via Bittorrent and have had over 600 active seeders and up to 2500 total peers at peak. Therefore, if you’re having problems getting a copy, give it a while and try again; all of the mirrors that have a copy of the file are busy, and there are over 200 peers still downloading the torrent as I write this. Good luck, and safe surfing!
